Monetize Your Blog With Freelance Services

Even in high school, I knew that I wanted to help women. What that meant to me at that time, I had no idea. Honestly, I didn’t know what it truly meant until 2015 when I was 30 years old. Even then, when I knew how I wanted to help women, there was still doubt in my mind that it was even possible.

I have gone through a few different transitions when it comes to helping women through my business.

  • I started by coaching women on how to fall in love with themselves.

  • I then went to selling subscription boxes to help bring self-care and self-love into the lives of women.

  • From there, I started to freelance blog for women entrepreneurs after falling in love with women-owned small businesses.

  • I went on to coach women on how to share their stories through blogging.

  • I now combine all of these in one way or another and I help women entrepreneurs uplevel their creative content through authentic storytelling and I help women share their stories through blogging (whether they are entrepreneurs or not).

The different routes of my business were all different but they were all connected.

THE NEW WAY TO MAKE AN INCOME

As the prices of things all around us continue to increase or we just want to find a career that we love and are passionate about, freelance services have started to boom.

Women want to find a way to create a life that works for them. For some of them, it means working outside of the home and loving it. For some of them, it means being able to stay home with their family. For some of them, it is a combination of both. They want to be able to help provide for their family but be there when they are needed.

That last one is me. I want to be able to support myself and my family. For many years, I couldn’t do that. It made more sense for me to stay home than to get a job outside of the house due to the costs. For the majority of us, it is hard to live off of one income.

Offering freelance services or products gives us the opportunity to have pieces of both worlds. Freelancing isn’t easy. Entrepreneurship isn’t easy. Most weeks it means that we are working more than 40 hours to get our passion off the ground. However, the benefit for me has been that those 40 hours work around MY schedule.

I get to drop my kids off and pick my kids up from school. (99% of the time. I do still have a part-time job outside of the home.)

It can mean that I am working until midnight some nights.

It can mean that I am working early some days.

WHAT IS FREELANCING?

Freelancing basically means that you are working for yourself rather than for another outside business. You are self-employed and setting your own hours.

Different ways that you can freelance…

  • Blogging

  • Copywriting

  • Graphic design

  • Illustration

  • Consultant

  • Video editing

  • Editing

  • Creating ebooks

  • Ghostwriter

  • Website designer

Honestly, the list can go on and on with how you can freelance.

THE BENEFITS OF FREELANCING

1| You get to pick and choose who you work with.

That is a HUGE benefit. When you work for someone else, you normally can’t say no or choose who you work with. When it comes to freelancing, you get to say yes to the clients that make your life easier and the projects that will fill you with joy.

2| Freedom of hours worked.

You get to set your own hours. I don’t want you to instantly think that you are going to be making thousands of dollars a week working only 15 hours. I think there is this HUGE misconception that we all should strive for working less and less while making copious amounts more.

This isn’t going to happen overnight. It is going to take time to build up your freelance business. The hours you put in, in the beginning, are going to be much higher. That is what it takes to build a business. Freelancing is no different. Just as blogging, you need to create a foundation and keep building on that foundation.

3| Flexibility.

This is one of the huge factors as to why I started my own business.

I wanted to be able to take my kids to school.

I wanted to be able to pick my kids up from school.

I wanted to be able to attend sporting events.

I wanted to be able to eat dinner with them every single night at the table.

I wanted to be able to read bedtime stories and have movie nights.

These are important to me. Being a mom is one of the best things that has happened to me BUT I also didn’t want to be ONLY a mom. I still wanted to fill up with my passions and show my kids that when they follow their hearts, they can live a life that they love. And that is different for everyone.

CHOOSING THE SERVICES THAT YOU DO AS A FREELANCER

When it comes to building a freelancing business, you want to make sure that you are passionate about it and that it fits into your expertise. You already have a blog so how can you make freelance services that complement it?

Look within your niche and at your skills.

What can you do really well in your niche?

What do you love to do in your niche?

For example, I love to blog so I have freelance blogging services but in 2022 I started to expand on that a little bit. I wanted to go out of my comfort zone so that I could grow as a person and as a business.

I took on a new client and wrote an ebook for their business. I had written my own ebook in the past but had never thought of doing it for other businesses. It was challenging but so much fun. I learned a lot about what I can do as a writer.

Another example for me is that I LOVE to create graphics that go along with my blog posts. It is a lot of fun to me because it gives me another avenue to get out my creativity. I help some bloggers create their graphics for social media and their blog posts. I even help create workbooks and their opt-ins.

Brainstorm the answers to the two questions above. What comes out? What piece of your blogging niche do you absolutely LOVE to do and could do it as a freelancer?

Research what others in your niche are offering for freelance services.

Of course, this doesn’t mean that you copy them. It does give you insight into what others in your niche are offering. Research never hurt anyone. This will not only give you insight into WHAT they are offering but it can also give you insight into their pricing.

Think about what sets you apart in your freelancing niche.

What do you do really well? If you want to create graphics as a freelancer, who do you want to work with? Get super clear on who you want to help. This is going to help you to reach out to potential clients.

DO NOT SELL YOURSELF SHORT WHEN IT COMES TO YOUR FREELANCE SERVICES

There are many websites out there that make it harder for someone just starting out as a freelancer to be taken seriously. Unfortunately, websites like Fiverr and Upwork make it a lot easier to underprice yourself.

I do not recommend using those sites. I am not saying that you can’t because I have personally purchased from those sites before. However, when it comes to advertising your freelance services, these sites make it harder to charge what you are worth.

The majority (not all) of people are on there to find the cheapest solution possible. That means that as a freelancer, you are going to be doing more work for less money. No one wants to do that.

Again, I am not saying that you can’t sign up to work on those sites as a freelancer. I just know that it is really hard to find someone on those sites that is willing to pay you what you are actually worth. After all, that is the point of working for yourself. To get paid your worth!!

CONCLUSION

The freelance opportunities that you can create are endless. You can do anything and everything as a freelancer. It is up to you to narrow down and find something that you will enjoy doing, something that will bring out your passions, and something that is also going to help you bring in an income.

Don’t let anyone tell you that it can’t be done. I am here to remind you that what you want to achieve is possible.

Keep moving forward.

Keep looking your goals in the face.

Keep showing up.
