About 4 weeks ago, I said yes.
My word for 2022 is MORE.
More money.
More happiness.
More love.
More sex.
More success.
More adventures.
More smiles.
More laughs.
I want more of everything and so I am living my life with MORE always in the front of my mind. I want only things that bring joy to my life and that will help take me to the next level.
I almost didn’t apply.
I didn’t think I would be good at it.
I didn’t think I was qualified for it.
And then I remembered the Ted Talk by Reshma Saujani called Teach Girls Bravery, Not Perfection. One of the best Ted Talks I have ever watched. So I just F*** it and apply.
Almost instantly, she replied, “Hi! Yes, you’re hired!!”
Of course, I thought it was a joke. I know Nikaela and this woman is a powerhouse and I am so honoured to know her and watch her grow throughout the years. We met back in 2016 after I started my business, BeYOUtiful Box. She was a vendor in the boxes and made incredible body products.
I have watched her become this incredible businesswoman and my support for her is unwavering.
When she said yes, I thought she was joking.
Who would want me to work for them? I wasn’t qualified to be doing what I applied for. I thought she was joking that I put off meeting with her. It took me a week or two to finally go in and have a sit down with her. I started the next day.
Oh, the self-doubt was running rampant but I was determined to be MORE.
THE IMPACT OF A NEW JOB, NEW CLOTHES, AND A NEW ATTITUDE
I always felt like I was made for more. I don’t know really how to explain it.
When I was younger, I always imagined myself wearing a business suit and being in the board room of some building. Leading a team and changing the world. I honestly had NO IDEA what that meant but that was always my vision.
Then my real life took over. I live in yoga pants when working from home. I started my own business and there are days when I second guess everything that I do. I worked a part-time job in a photo lab. I LOVED the people that I worked with but still felt like something was missing.
When I got the job as an admin for Lil Bettas Swim School, I had to uplevel everything that I was doing.
I had to get new work clothes.
I had to take a shower and do my hair.
I had to manage my time even more than I was used to.
I was ready for this uplevel but there were some bumps in the road that I hit.
I found that finding cute clothing for my plus-size body wasn’t going to be as easy as I was hoping. I would leave the dressing rooms feeling defeated. I saw the racks full of cute clothes for smaller sizes and wondered if I was ever going to be able to find clothes that made me feel powerful, business-like, and cute. Even with my body size, I deserve to feel cute in the clothing that I wear.
I had long given up finding clothes that made me feel good and so my default was yoga pants and t-shirts. I may not have looked professional but they were comfortable.
I found a few things pairs of pants that I loved and so I bought them. I didn’t and still don’t know how to dress in those pants but I have a few staple items that are allowing me to build up my business attire.
Every morning I wake up and I am excited to go into my closet and see what I can put together.
I have more confidence when I put on this clothing.
I have more pride when I put on this clothing.
I will say…
I still love my yoga pants and wear them daily.
There is nothing as powerful as a woman who is confident in her own skin. I now feel like that woman and that affects EVERY single aspect of my life.
STEPPING INTO MORE EVERY SINGLE DAY
There comes a time when you have to make the decision to be more yourself. To step into who you want to be and who you are becoming. When you have to walk into the fear and the unknown and take it step by step.
I do not have a plan for my life. Honestly, if I did, it wouldn’t mean anything. I have goals and I have dreams and I am working towards reaching them every day but I believe that life takes us on a journey. A journey to where we are meant to be and that may be something that is completely different than what our plan is.
By taking a chance and saying yes to this job, I have stepped into MORE for my life. I am allowing who I am supposed to be to find her way to me.
By taking a chance and saying yes to this job, I have given myself renewed confidence in my abilities to run my own business while supporting my family.
By taking a chance and saying yes to this job, I am learning how to empower myself through the clothes that I wear.
By taking a chance and saying yes to this job, I am helping another entrepreneur build her business and her dream life while also building mine.
More can be a scary thing. It can make us feel as if where we are right now isn’t enough. I know that who I am right now is enough.
I am learning to take the chances.
I am learning to put my business out there.
I am learning to show up even more for my passions.
Leveling up means surrounding myself with women who aren’t afraid to step into their MORE every single day allowing me to safely do it too.
This is what I hope to be for someone. I hope that I am that woman who shows them that MORE isn’t a scary thing. That MORE doesn’t mean putting your dreams on hold. That MORE is about stepping into your authentic self and not being afraid to say yes.
Saying yes gives us the chance to level up.
