Writing the blog post is only a piece of the work that needs to be done.
Scary thought, right?
You are reading this wondering how you can not only write a blog post but also promote your blog post so that you get eyes on it.
Honestly, the real work comes after you hit publish but if you have a strategy to share that beautiful blog post that you just hit publish on, you will already be ahead of many other bloggers.
Before we dive into how you can promote your business blog, let’s talk about the importance of getting people onto your blog.
THE BENEFITS OF WEBSITE TRAFFIC
It seems like the benefits of getting people to your website would be obvious, but we will talk about why you want to have a blog that brings people there. You don’t want to have a website that is just sitting stagnant on any search engines.
Search engines prefer websites that consistently update their website. This means that you are building your brand authority through content that is relevant to your niche, relevant to your target market, and helpful to those who come to your website.
Here are a few more benefits of bringing traffic to your website.
TO NURTURE YOUR POTENTIAL CLIENT
Consumers want to be nurtured. They don’t want to feel like they are being sold to. Having a blog lets you nurture potential clients by showing them who you are as a brand and as a person. With nurturing, you are able to consistently reach and communicate to this client and the pain points that they are having.
PROBLEM SOLVE FOR YOUR READERS
You have a business that is solving some type of problem. If you aren’t solving a problem then you don’t have a business. Blogging helps to bring people to your website so that they can see that you are knowledgeable in your niche. This helps to build trust between current and future customers as well as trust in SEO.
MORE PEOPLE EQUALS THE POSSIBILITY OF MORE SALES
I am not saying that you need to have a giant audience to make sales. I am also not saying that if you have a giant audience you will make sales. What I am saying is that the more people that you can bring to your website, the more chance you have of getting people to purchase.
This isn’t going to be an overnight thing. You still need to build trust and show your expertise but the more you do this, the more people will see what you know and how you do it.
READERS GET TO KNOW YOUR BRAND
This is so important when it comes to building a business. Social media is a great way to build your online presence but it moves incredibly fast. Blogging gives you the option to create long-form content. This type of content encourages the reader to interact with the content and keeps them on the page longer while building your authority in your niche.
Website traffic is vital to helping you build your business but in what ways can you promote your business blog without feeling overwhelmed and like you are constantly online?
THE BEST WAYS TO PROMOTE YOUR BLOG
You have taken the time to write the content. You want to bring people to your blog. By getting clear on the ways that you can promote your blog and bring traffic to your website, you will be able to create a clear strategy. If you are struggling with what to write about on your business blog, here are ways that will help you plan out your content.
Being clear on how you can promote your blog will take the confusion out of the everyday things that you need to do. Before you begin to promote in all of the different places, I want you to create a list of places that you currently use.
My list includes…
Instagram
Facebook
Twitter
Pinterest
LinkedIn
Blog Pros
Flodesk
Let’s break them down, even more, to show you how you can use these to promote your blog posts.
I love IG. If I don’t set a timer, I could scroll IG for way too long! Does anyone else feel the same? There are many different ways that you can use Instagram to share your blog posts.
First I want to talk about creating an Instagram link page on your website. There are many different options but the best option would be to create your own link page on your website. That way you are sending people to your own website to grab the link that they are looking for. For an idea of what I mean, here is my link page for Creative Purpose, and here is my other link page for Empoword Blogging.
The different ways that you can promote your blog through Instagram are…
Stories
Feed posts
Reels
Videos
There are a few different ideas that you can use when promoting each section. This is how I break down sharing my blog posts on Instagram. I publish on Mondays for Creative Purpose so this is how I do it.
Monday: Share a new blog post graphic to stories.
Monday: Ask a question in regards to my blog post to my feed.
Tuesday: Share a feed post with a quote from the blog post.
Wednesday: Share a carousel feed post with teachable things from the blog post.
Anytime I share a blog post to my stories, I will also add it to my highlight section that I titled Blog Posts. That way they are always there.
Again, Facebook is a great place for you to share your blog posts.
The different ways that you can promote your blog through Facebook are…
Stories
Facebook page
Facebook groups
Personal Facebook page
Using Creative Purpose as an example again, this is how I promote my blog posts using Facebook.
Monday: Share a new blog post graphic to my personal stories.
Monday: Share my blog post on my Creative Purpose business page.
Tuesday: Share my blog post on my personal feed and ask if anyone would share it.
Tuesday: Share my blog post with the stories on my Creative Purpose business page.
Wednesday: Share my blog post with my own Facebook group so they can read it.
I also recommend creating a Trello board for the Facebook groups that you are in for promotion. This is a great way to keep track of every day of the week and what you can share and where.
I am not super into Twitter but I do know that there are some bigger bloggers out there that use it. I will comment on a few of their feeds with a blog post but I am not super consistent with this platform.
When I do use it, I will share my blog post on my own feed on the same day that I publish it. I will go back a day or two later and see if I can find a thread to comment on and share it there as well.
I am a lover of Pinterest and have been for so long. One of my favourite places to scroll for ideas on the internet.
I am no expert on Pinterest and if you are looking to learn more about it, there is a course that I am an affiliate for which means I will be compensated for you purchasing the course. It is a great course. You can grab that Pinterest course here from Boss Girl Bloggers.
Using Creative Purpose as an example, this is how I use Pinterest…
Monday: Post a new graphic with the blog title and share it to a relevant board.
Tuesday: Post a new graphic with a quote from the blog post and share it to a different but relevant board.
Wednesday: Post a new graphic with something teachable from the blog post and share it to a different but relevant board.
I will then reshare previous blog posts as well. I will usually start with sharing the blog posts that I linked to in the newest blog post. I will also use the blog posts that I recommend at the bottom of the newest blog post. That way it helps to bring traffic to those ones as well.
I am just starting to use LinkedIn even more and I have changed my strategy a bit.
With LinkedIn, it is all about conversation and teaching. I used to share my blog posts to my feed but I no longer do that. Instead, this is what I do.
Monday: Post my blog post to my Featured Section.
Tuesday: Write a feed post talking about what I am teaching in my blog post.
Wednesday: Try to come up with a poll to get the conversation going.
BLOG PROS
This is a platform that I don’t need to do anything on but I love it. It brings more traffic to my website. Blog Pros is a platform that sends your blog posts to relevant users that share and like your blog posts. It is a great way for me to reach new people who are interested in my content. There is a 30-day free trial that I would recommend that you try.
FLODESK
Now I will admit that I am NOT consistent with sending newsletters to my email list. This is something that I need to work on but when I am consistent, I send them a weekly newsletter with my blog posts.
This is a great way to send it to those who are interested in what I do without making them search or have to remember that I published new content. Instead, my new content goes to their inbox so they can read it when they have a chance.
One of the challenges from the 31 Days of May Blogging Challenge was to create an email list for your blog. Want to join us, there is still time!!
This can all seem like a lot of work but it just takes some strategy and organization. Break down your month day by day and write it out where you are going to post. Having a clear plan will help you to stay on task and make sure that you share your blog post everywhere that you can.
