6 Ways to Get Your Creative Self Unstuck

Ways to help you get your creativity flowing again.

There have been many nights where I have sat in front of a blank computer screen just wondering what words to type. Getting frustrated because I can’t figure it out. Slamming my computer shut because I am irritated.

What if you could throw away the frustration and get out of your creative slump? Today I want to share with you 6 ideas that have helped me ignite creativity. Creativity allows you to have different and exciting content, share your story, and just have fun.

LEARN TO IGNITE YOUR CREATIVITY

#1. Go to sleep. Seriously. I need to keep a journal next to my bed because it's just as I'm about to fall asleep that my creative brain kicks in. The same thing happened with this post. I was about to go to sleep after staring at my computer screen for 30 minutes while my son and husband talked about farts beside me. I had nothing to write until I closed my computer and my eyes. And now I'm here finishing this post.

#2. Get rid of the clutter. There are so many benefits to getting rid of the clutter but seriously my creativity sparks when I'm not surrounded by things. The anxiety disappears and I am free to write.

#3. Meditate. Just like #2, this is all about mentally clearing the clutter. Let your mind take a break. Meditate for 10 minutes and see what pops into your head. Have paper handy.

#4. Read a book or listen to a podcast. Consume some content for a bit even if it's only for 10 minutes. A word or a phrase may spark something inside of you.

#5. Head to Pinterest and look up quotes. Seriously someone else's words will light you up. They will make you feel emotions that will help you create magic with your own words.

#6. Watch a documentary. I remember sitting down to watch The Hunting Ground on Netflix. A topic close to my heart. If you don't know, I am a sexual assault survivor and that is 1 of the reasons I am so passionate about self-love and self-care. Anyway, watching that documentary brought about a change in me.

I knew I wasn't alone. I knew that someone out there was needing to hear what I had to say. It reignited the flame inside of me to share my story. It put me right back in the moment when my life changed.

Find a documentary and watch it. Let yourself feel all the emotions. Get carried away. It will remind you that words are powerful.

Those are my 6 ways to reignite your creativity. Do you have a certain way that helps you? I'd love for you to share it.
