I hate the word resolutions. Did I ever tell you that? If you have followed me for a while, you would have heard me say this before. I used to live for resolutions. Wait until January 1st to begin the new diet or the new resolution that I believed was going to change my life. And here we are, in 2021, and I can’t even tell you of a resolution that has changed my life over my course of setting them.
So here we are on the first day of 2021. With 2020, in the rearview mirror, we are more than ready to move on with what little hope we may still have. I mean, 2020 gave us a run for our money and there are some of us that are still barely holding on. I have my moments.
TWO TIMES A YEAR GET ME SUPER EXCITED
There are two times every year that get me feeling super pumped. January and September. These are the months that I feel like I hit a reset button. January, well because, the prospect of a brand new year is just too enticing not to love. And September, well that is because the kids are back in school so I feel like we get a chance to refocus our efforts and our goals.
I take time in both of these months to really think about what I want out of life. It is like twice a year I get to reinvent what I want from my life and who doesn’t want that.
I haven’t set resolutions since I started my self-love journey in 2014. That was the year that I decided no more and I banned that word. It wasn’t benefiting me in any way so to get rid of it meant that I was giving myself back some power that I had lost.
Resolutions took that power away from me for so many years. I still cringe when I hear women say that they are creating their list of resolutions. My solution, create goals. But not JUST goals. Create goals that are meaningful, scary and massive. Goals that make you second guess yourself but goals that light you up inside.
In 2020, I became part of an accountability group that has been amazing. We chat once a week. Mostly we talk about the goals that we are working towards but sometimes we just discuss life and how hard it is to be an entrepreneur. The moderator of the group created a 21 goals list for us to make and these are the goals that I wanted to share with you today. I am going to add a few more BIG and SCARY goals that I don’t have on that list but I want to work towards.
21 GOALS FOR 2021
It was difficult for me at first to come up with 21 goal ideas. The last couple of months of 2020 just wore me down and I really didn’t want to keep moving forward. I just wanted to quit. BUT I am not a quitter so I decided to take a few weeks off of posting new content on my blog and posting to social media randomly just to give myself a break.
I am feeling more creative, more energetic and more excited for the year to come because I gave myself that time. I will be doing the same again this year and taking the whole month of December off so that I can just take some downtime with my family.
Along with my goals for the year, I always pick a word of the year. Well, not always but I started doing that in about 2016. My word for 2020 was becoming and I really think that is exactly what I did, both in business and in my personal life. I became more than I thought I would. I had breakthroughs and setbacks along with working through some of the darker moments in my life. That is what I had hoped that becoming meant at the beginning of the year. There is still a lot of things that I need to work through but I have come a long way and am excited to continue my personal growth and business growth in 2021.
My word for 2021 is fierce. It is a word that came to me while I was doing some of the exercises in the book, The Fire Starter Sessions. (An absolute must-read if you have never read it.) We had to do an exercise to create words that we wanted our life to represent. Fierce stuck with me so it has become my 2021 word of the year.
MY BIG, SCARY GOALS FOR 2021
Are you ready? Here are the 21 goals that I wrote down to reach in 2021 along with some bonus goals that I haven’t yet told anyone. So consider yourselves lucky to be on the inside.
Fill up Blogology each round. I do this program only 4 times a year and only allow 5 women in it at a time. I love to make sure that they are getting my attention.
Hire a business coach. I know so many amazing women who do this and I know that as a creative, I need some help with guiding my ideas so that they actually will work.
Hire Gina Brogan as my 1 on 1 coach. She is so amazing at what she does and if you didn’t read my blog post before this one, What Blogging Meant to Me in 2020, I suggest you do. She helped me come to some big breakthroughs with visualization.
Save $5,000.
Take a weekend getaway with Richard. 2020 was supposed to be the year that we spent a weekend with just the two of us. We have been married for almost 15 years and never once have been away, just the two of us. We didn’t even have a honeymoon. So I booked a hotel in the mountains and then COVID hit and shut everything down and our weekend was cancelled. So 2021 will be the year.
Host my first online blogging summit. Stay tuned for details.
Sell 50 blog planners. They are now listed on my Etsy store, Fiercely Create, as digital versions if you want to do that.
Purchase a new computer. I have had the computer I am using since my husband bought it for me for Christmas in 2015. I am ready for an upgrade.
Turn my master bedroom into a grown-up oasis. Every other room in my house has kid’s toys. I want a beautiful space that I can go to as an escape. I already started on this by purchasing a chair for my bedroom with the money my mom gave me for Christmas.
Get 3, 1 on 1 blog coaching clients per month. If you are ready to start your blog or to bring life back into the one you currently have, I have spaces ready to be filled to start in January.
Take over the van payments from my husband.
Buy Richard a new truck.
Help 32 women start or improve their blog in 2021.
Buy at least 1 new piece of lingerie a month. I may have splurged and I have purchased 1 new piece from my favourite, La Vie En Rose, and then I ordered 5 new pieces from Shein, a company I have never ordered from.
Host my first blogging retreat. How amazing would it be to spend a weekend in the mountains and work on blogging? I can’t wait to create this in-person event.
Try a new sex position once a month. Sorry mom, if you are reading this. This is a personal one but let’s have some fun in 2021.
Have 12 video courses on my website. This means 1 new video blogging course once a month. Bring it on!
Be a guest blogger at least once a month for new websites. My guest blogging for Canadian Small Business Women doesn’t count for this.
Get 1 long term freelance client.
Meditate silently for 45 minutes per day. Currently, I am doing 15 minutes per day.
Finish writing my book. I have been putting this off for too long because it is painful to write but no more. This year will be the year.
Those are the goals that I have created for myself. Here are a few additional goals that I am working towards.
Doing some plus size lingerie modelling. No idea where to even begin but this would be a dream come true.
Do a couple’s boudoir photoshoot with my husband.
Make $5,000 a month consistently.
Be a speaker at a blog convention.
So there are all my big, scary and amazingly awesome goals for 2021. I want to hear what your goals are for this new year. Remember to be grateful for all the amazing moments in your life and 2021 will be unstoppable for you.
Oh and this blog post represents blog #150 that goes live on my site.
